Frequently Asked Questions

Below is a list of commonly asked questions when it comes to the sport of Retrieving Trials under the SSAA. If you have a question that we have not answered below, please drop us a line at info@unitedfieldandretrieving.org.au

Do Retrieving Trials held under the SSAA involve the use of live game?

ANSWER - No, Retrieving Trials held under the SSAA do not involve the use of live game. Our trials are held using Dokken Dead Fowl Trainers which are artificial game used to test the dogs retrieving abilities.

Do competing gundogs need to have pedigree papers to participate in SSAA Retrieving Trials?

ANSWER - No, as the SSAA United Field and Retrieving Branch is not governed by the Canine Control Council of Qld or the Australian National Kennel Association, gundogs competing in our competitions do not require pedigree papers. However, our club does not support, nor encourage the deliberate inter-breeding of dogs in any way. Gundog breeders have worked hard over many years to breed quality into their lines, a well as trying to eliminate the hereditary diseases that can be associated with many breeds.
